I found a friend

This weekend Mike and I went to the middle of nowhere in the middle of MO to get together with my old friends from college. One of the guys was turning 40 and he and his wife live near Fulton, MO and so we all converged on the their 15acres Saturday and had a rip roarin' time.
Complete with bonfire and swimming in the pond.
Even though we had a great time, my favorite part was discovering that one of my oldest friends Dads is very into photography and since he has been retired from his "real job" has been teaching photography and photoshop at the local community college. "Jackpot" He was there to take a group photo and when I saw him with his gear I pounced. He was so sweet and I kept stealing away to go talk with him about all kinds of geeky camera stuff. What a find! I warned him that I would be contacting him. I asked Mike last night if he thought calling him today would be too soon, and if you know me at all you know I am not kidding.
So for all of you fellow budding photography geeks, you know that the camera is only half of the process. All the pics that you see that are amazing are usually so because of Photoshop or other editing software. I have one program that is okay but I keep toying with getting photoshop but it is very expensive so I just keep putting it off. My new friend told me about Photshop Lightroom, which is a new product. They have a free 30 day trial on their website so I loaded it last night. I think I really like it. The only problem I have no idea how to save my work.
I did a screen shot here of a before and after and I have to say I was amazed.
This is a pic from the pier in NC on a point and shoot camera. A few clicks in Lightroom and the sea and sky became so vibrant but I feel like the people stayed true.
I will keep playing and report of further findings.
